Looking for a shoe that’s made out of a material that’s both classic, durable and functional?

Meet Vibram, a specific kind of rubber sole that gives you all of the above and more, plus the stylish benefit of being a key element in some of Two24’s shoes as well as in brands including The North Face and Patagonia. Vibram has been around since 1937, when Vitale Bramani developed a shoe sole made out of volcanized rubber technology. Nearly 100 years later, the very same material is still a favorite for mountain climbers and athletes around the word. Ahead, everything you need to know about the material and why it’s worth picking up a pair of shoes with Vibram soles.

The Origins

Created in 1937, the first Vibram product was dubbed Carramato and was produced in high quality Italian factories. In 1954, a group of Italian mountain climbers put the product to the test by wearing Dolomite boots with Vibram soles when they climbed K2. For each part of the trip – trekking, reaching a high altitude, etc. – the hikers were given different customized models for the best possible results.

Born in the U.S.A.

In 1965 Vibram came to the United States in the form of an exclusive licensing agreement with the Quabuag Rubber Group. Shortly after in 1967, Vibram introduced the Security Sole, marking it as a product of high quality built to last for the ages. The Security Sole is the first sole guaranteed to last for the entire lifespan of the shoe.

The Benefits of Vibram

It’s possible that Vibram is one of the most innovate shoe materials in the world. The best part of having a pair of shoes with Vibram soles is the benefit of the spectacular grip and durability, whether you’re on your feet all day, riding, or climbing a mountain! The Fairview, for example, is made of extremely luxurious leather and structured as a stylish lace-up boot that comes with the added bonus of having a Vibram sole.

If you’re looking for a shoe that will literally last a lifetime, Vibram soles provide just that. The Uptown, for example, is a good sturdy option that appeals to a range of lifestyles.

The Future of Footwear

In 2002, Vibram further established itself as a forward-thinking luxury brand by opening up the Vibram Creative Lab in Milan, dedicated to the study of creative concepts. Since then, Vibram has been at the cusp of technical innovations. In 2008, the brand opened up a Milan boutique to showcase its namesake products and, in 2012, it opened a store in Boston on Newbury Street. With Two24’s shoes and boots that utilize Vibram, you don’t have to compromise on style, quality or durability.
